Turns out there was a reason for all those gravel trucks that began roaring down the road. They were finally filling in the yawning gaps on either side of the bridge arch. Now, though the completion date has been extended for two weeks, there is hope we might one day be able to cross the creek again.
There’s lots left to be done. Bridge railing, paving, maybe even a grand opening. But just seeing the gravel fill, knowing that one could step across if necessary, means us folks on this side of the slash are no longer cut off from our village. Or have to take the long way round.
And perhaps this is the shovel that did it.
